Anonymous Genoese mandolin in a museum, approximately 1750, Italy.
From about 1750 the Genoese mandolin developed in Genoa. It had 6 string courses, like many baroque mandolins. However, it had a floating bridge, metal strings and a bent soundboard, like the later Neapolitan mandolin, and like the chitarra battente. The frets were also metal, as tied gut frets would not last against the metal strings.
