2 Surviving instruments by Raffaele Vinaccia, 1890, Italy.
From the end of 19th century the Lombardic mandolin developed. It always had 6 single strings. The body became rounder, and it got a raised fingerboard, with metal frets. The soundhole is often oval, and without a rose like earlier models, and instead only an inlaid rosette.
